Tomb 50 — Follow the Hand

BEFORE LEAVING Tomb 22: Now it’s time to get moving again. To find the place where I appeared, first you’ll have to look for… a hand! Look at your map. Can you see the hand drawn on it? It points to a place where archaeologists found something very special. Your mission is to get there. Orient the map, find the path and move forward together. Come on, explorer team!
WHEN YOU REACH Tomb 50 AND OPEN THE IMAGE: You’ve made it! You’re beside Tomb 50. Look at this image: several stone fragments were found here, and when archaeologists joined three of them together, they recognised a right hand with the start of an arm. As if they’d solved a puzzle with many missing pieces! The sculpture even had traces of reddish paint.
But we don’t know for certain what it looked like when complete or whom it represented. This hand belonged to another sculpture, not to my little figure. Our search continues! Before you go on, look up from the image and take a look around. Can you see the hill on the other side of the valley? That’s Cerro del Real. The settlement of Tútugi stood there, where the people who built these tombs lived.
Imagine their houses, the paths and the people coming and going. Now look at the hills around you. Did you think the cemetery ended beside the tombs we’ve visited? It was much, much larger! The necropolis covered an area equivalent to about 170 football pitches. The tombs were spread out in different groups across the higher ground. There were open spaces between them: it wasn’t all filled with burials!
Today we’re exploring just one part of that enormous place. And among all those tombs… we still have to find the one where I appeared. Find number 20 on your map and follow the path to it. My secret is getting closer and closer! TRANSITION TO Tomb 20: You’ve found the hand, but you still have to discover where I appeared. Now find number 20 on your map and follow the path to it.
The next chapter of my story awaits you there!
