Galera Archaeological Museum

A vessel, a tool or an ornament can tell us how the people who lived in Galera before us went about their lives.
Galera Archaeological Museum

This museum brings together finds from its archaeological sites and lets visitors trace the history of the area from Prehistory to later periods. Among its highlights are the remains from burial 121 at Castellón Alto, discovered in November 2002. An adult man and a child were found there, along with exceptionally well-preserved materials that usually disappear: hair, textiles and wood.

The sealed tomb and the dry environment favoured natural mummification. The well-known Galera mummy is kept in a display case with a specially controlled atmosphere. Also look out for the ceramic vessels, grave goods and Roman-period inscriptions. Each object comes from a context that helps us interpret it: a house, a tomb or a space in the ancient city.

This visit is a good introduction to Castellón Alto and Tútugi. Here you can take a close look at objects that, at the archaeological sites, will help you imagine the daily lives and beliefs of their inhabitants.
