Eastern Slope Centre

The eastern slope was the last major area of the settlement to be occupied.
Eastern Slope Centre

Its dwellings were arranged across four levels, although the lowest has been almost completely destroyed. Here you can compare excavated areas with surfaces that still preserve the remains underground. This difference explains why an archaeological site does not reveal its entire history all at once: excavation uncovers structures and the relationships between them.

A type of burial characteristic of the area was also documented on this slope, consisting of a pit with a small side cavity. One of the most unusual finds was an individual whose skull was found between the hands, accompanied by the first three cervical vertebrae. The arrangement made it possible to interpret this as the separation of the head while it still had tissue; on its own, it does not reveal the reason.

Your guide will help you locate these remains and distinguish observations from interpretations.
